Literary 3+/5
Del is a young girl who grows up to young adulthood in a small town and observes events surrounding the many familiar people in her life. Well written, but slow paced—in other words, I can admire the work, but it’s not my genre.
I finished my editing contract last week, all except for a final Zoom call with the client to go over any questions she has. On Saturday I’m heading to Rio Hondo, a 1-week writers’ critiquing session in Truchas, New Mexico, with a few of my American writing friends, as well as an opportunity to meet some SFF writers I haven’t worked with before. VERY much looking forward to it!
Novel edits in to beta readers, back to editing the client’s novel. Going well!
Almost done with my novel edits. I was supposed to give it to my beta readers last Wednesday, but for various reasons (not to do with me!), my critique deadline was put off a week, so I asked for a week’s extension. They were happy to give it to me if it means the novel’s in better shape–which it definitely is. I’ll have it for them this Wednesday.
Aomame, a top-class assassin, fulfills her contract and must hide, while Tengo, a writer hired to edit a novel which seems to portray real, unfolding events, is drawn into her world. I thoroughly enjoyed the complex twists of this thriller, though I did find it to be overly-long with a disappointing ending.
