Critiques done!

Love holidays, but sometimes it is hard to find time for commitments, like critiquing for the upcoming workshop with Adrienne Kerr. However, as I didn’t have to do the driving myself, I was able to get 3 days’ worth of critiquing in the car. Of course, I had read all the submissions ahead of time, so it was just the second read and putting together my comments. Done!

A Day for Painting

We have decided to stay in Prince George for a day as we wend our way back from a holiday in the Yukon, as Don wants to see the railway museum here–so I am taking a day to paint! I have made probably a dozen sketches in the last couple of days and it will be wonderful to paint again. A couple of weeks ago, I had a painting day and completed 3 small paintings!

Sketching

Not sure how many sketches I did today–we drove the Cassiar Highway and boy, is it beautiful. I think I must have done about 15 sketches. Can’t wait to paint again!

My short story will be launched next week!

Cover of the Blood & Water collection The anthology, Blood and Water, will be launched at When Words Collide next week, with my short story, “Digging Deeper.” The cover is beautiful! I’ll have to pick up a bunch of copies to take to worldcon for my autograph session.

Amazing Trip

Wow! The Dempster Highway–on a motorcycle, especially just after rain–is an amazing experience. Talk about slick–I was glad Don was driving, because we met a couple of ex-motorcycle cops from the states who had accidents, and thank God we didn’t, though I was sure nervous sitting on the back. But we got here, safe and sound. But today, we had the most amazing day. We tried to go north, but the roads were bad and not worth it at noon. So we tried again at 5:30 PM. Hey, it stays light here forever, so why not? And the roads were better, so we went to the Arctic Circle–and then on to the border of the Northwest Territories. So–fog, wet slimy mud, downhill, and Don having to take his hand off the handlebars every so often to wipe his glasses. Hmm. But worth it? Yes! A grizzly and cub on the far side. Incredible landscape–no trees–so beautiful! And on the way back? An immense herd of caribou!! Wow!
