Write Off the Weekend

So this weekend is IFWA’s Write-Off. Went Friday night and most of yesterday and got tons done on my novel, and am going again today. Nothing like concentrated time to really get your teeth into the novel edits.

Author Event at Pandora’s Boox

Thanks to Randy McCharles and Lesley Winfield for organizing a wonderful multi-author signing at Pandora’s Boox in Olds today! We had about 12- 15 authors out, and every one of them sold at least a book or two–I sold three! The book store did very well, and everyone had fun. I met some new authors, and had a great time.

Re-wrote a short story

Got some good writing done on my novel. A scene that was just not working was whipped into shape, and I rewrote the ending to a short story and submitted it to my critique group. It got an excellent rejection from F&SF, so with some tweaks, it might still be good for another market.

V-Con Is Great

Didn’t win the Aurora for Best Short Fiction, but the convention was really well run and interesting. I attended a couple of sessions on medieval and renaissance warfare and a demonstration on sword fighting, and the SFC Canada party was great. The hotel was lovely and had a few meals with good friends.

Second retreat was even more fabulous!

Just spent 5 days at the Rocky Mountain Writers’ Retreat with 14 other writers and wrote almost 13,000 words. Not a record, though: Randy wrote 30,000. Planned out 22 scenes to finish the rough draft, and accomplished 15 of them. Very productive!

This weekend: off to V-con in Vancouver. A couple of weeks and I get another 3-day writers’ retreat. Hope to have the edits done, then!
