So, I attended Michael Cassutt’s screen writing workshop on Wednesday and Thursday–it was awesome! And, so good to see so many people from all over–Michael, of course, and David B. Coe, Hayden Trenholm, Suzanne Church, Barb Galler-Smith, Diane Walton, Susan McGreggor Gerald Brandt, Rob Sawyer, Adrienne Kerr, to name a very few. I could go on! Also met some new, and very wonderful people–Patty Briggs (a great singer, btw, and her husband is fantastic on the guitar), Barbara Fradkin (sooo friendly!) and Jamis Paulson. I knew Shirley Smith Matheson prior to WWC, but had never heard her speak–so funny and sharp!
Relaxing by the river for the long weekend
Weather was great for sitting by the river, watching the kids play in the sand, splash in the backwater (tons of mud for tons of fun) and throw rocks into the water. Ate too well, of course, and got thoroughly infused with smoke at the campfire. Even played the guitar a little–but mostly sang as others played.
Chapter 12 done
Editing Terry’s novel today–chapter 12 done! Really enjoying the process, but I am finding it takes on average about 10 hours per chapter.
Where does the time go?
Don suggested we take a motorcycle trip on the weekend and it was glorious: four days of hot, sunny weather, wild roads, beach, and barbecue. The campground we stay at–we usually come out every summer–is funky and friendly. But man, did I have to work hard earlier in the week to create the time off for myself! Self employment has its good parts, but some downsides as well.
Things settling down
The role of SFWA secretary promises to be a demanding one, at least for the first few months, but I’m getting a bit more efficient with procedures and routines. Whew! Also, back to the editing job and loving it. Making good progress. And, last night I got a draft of my AFA application done, and it’s not due until September. Looking forward to getting back to the novel, and AFA support would certainly help. Hope third time is the charm.
Rainy day today, and none of my family home. Just the perfect day to get lots of writing done!
