I started teaching the year-long novel course at the Alexandra Writers’ Centre (actually, half my students are writing novels and the other half are writing memoir/creative nonfiction). I’m very much enjoying it, and hopefully, they will all find it fun and productive.
Book Review: Klaus Barbie: Butcher of Lyon, by Tom Bower
Nonfiction 3-/5
The biography of one of the most notorious SS men to run the Gestapo in Lyon, France during World War II. This book not only provides the factual details, but provides a sense of the attitudes of various factions of the time, creating in-depth portraits of the historical personages.

Book Review: Liar, by Justine Larbalestier
YA 5/5
When Micah’s boyfriend is found dead, Micah recounts the events of the investigation and the history between them. But Micah is a liar. I loved this fascinating, twisty story that made me continually revise what I understood about the plot.
Book Review: Throne of Glass, by Sarah J. Maas
Sword and Sorcery 3-/5
