Merry Christmas!

Christmas break so I took time off. Merry Christmas everyone! Have a wonderful New Year’s Celebration (if that’s what you do) tomorrow!

Book Review: Born a Crime by Trevor Noah

Memoir 5+/5

Trevor Noah, known most widely for hosting The Daily Show, grew up in South Africa at a time when being born of a Black mother and a White father was illegal. This funny and delightful memoir was a book I couldn’t put down, and was happy to read a second time. Not only are the stories full of the hilarious pranks of childhood, they reveal Noah’s deep love for his mother and family, and the horrific effects of life under apartheid.

Book Review: The Hollow Boys by Douglas Smith

Fantasy 5/5

At 17 Will Dreycott has already created a million-dollar comic empire based on his magical forays into the dream world, rescuing lost children. But real world magical villains draw him into protecting lost street kids—the Hollow Boys. An imaginative, tense adventure with wonderful characters, tons of action, and amazing twists. Highly recommended!

Time off for caregiving

Not much writing–my brother went for surgery this week, so I flew to his home to help him. He can’t lift anything over 10 lbs and his wife needs a lot of help with dressing, moving with her walker, eating, etc. Looks like I’ll be here for a bit–we’ll see.
