Edited Kathy Calvert’s biography on the life of Jim Davies, pioneer helicopter pilot. He was the first (or at least, among the first–there may have other, independent trailblazers in other parts of the world) to work out systems for heli-skiing and mountain rescue slinging. Fascinating stories!
Word on the Street, Lethbridge
I was an invited Guest Author at Word on the Street In Lethbridge, this weekend, and oh, what an awesome event it was! I met several new colleagues, including Christian Guay Poliquin, Alex Lyttle, Antoine Mountain, and Eileen Cook. My presentation went well (to about 18 people) and at dinner Saturday night I had a long conversation with Fred Penner (The Cat Came Back). Tons of people were there, the weather was great, and I even sold a few books for Laksa!
Editing a non-fiction book
This week I was working on a non-fiction book on helicopter pilot, Jim Davies. What a cool story! Really enjoying the read!
Fantastic writers’ retreat
So, I DID submit Book 2 to the publisher, and had a couple of days to look at Book 3. The first half is pretty solid, and the second half is a strong skeleton (with a fair amount of flesh). It would be good to have it finished by the end of the month. Maybe… 🙂
Proofing the Audiobook
Spent the week on a deadline, listening to the audiobook for Bursts of Fire (Book 1) and making notes for corrections. Was SOOO cool to hear the book read aloud by a professional actor–and she IS super-professional. In 110,000 words, I found 2 mispronunciations and 6 errors. I think that is phenomenal. It was also a good review, as I am doing final proofing edits on Book 2 (which I’ll submit today, I think) and working on Book 3 (which is at finished-first-draft stage) this week, so the entire first half of the series is right in my head.
