I had a lovely afternoon at the zoo, filming animals for the Bursts of Fire videos. I don’t expect to use a lot of this footage–it will just be brief, incidental shots to give context to the main footage. Looking forward to doing the edits, and putting it all together!

The judges for the Sunburst Award got together to select the short list. Every time we have to kick someone off the island the job gets trickier, because each book has its champion, and some books are really controversial. But we did it! We have a short list! And it is one we can all support because it is a bit divisive, but it shows the breadth of spec fic because of that, rather than compromising on safer choices. It really reflects the fact that we are all experts from wildly different backgrounds and perspectives.

Got to have a quick look at the first three chapters of Heather Osborne’s novel, Songbroken, in preparation for a submission to a publishing house. This is one awesome book!

Another fun weekend. Went to my sister’s house with Holly to film the action-adventure shots for the book trailer. My sister is a horse wrangler with dogs who lives in the country, and Holly is an artist (with all the proper equipment) who knows how to shoot video footage. Small scale, small budget, but hopefully will make an impactful video!

Where do I start? So fun to run into so many people I know in the business, glittery awards ceremony, got to be on panels with people like Connie Willis, attended panels on informative topics–met a new room mate. The weekend was amazing!
