Final read-through before submission to my publisher

I wanted to have my novel in to my publisher on Thursday but am still finishing the final read-through. It’s going great (only changing a few words here and there, but they are words that need changing), but I haven’t been able to put in the hours. On Wednesday, a family member was admitted to hospital and it looks like they’re doing surgery soon. But between hospital visits and supporting family, it’s been busy.

On to the final read through!

Finished the revision (that is, the back-and-forthing), so all the notes I took are incorporated (or I’ve decided not to use some, as the case might be) and I began the final read-through. It’s been going well! I’ve found a couple of inconsistencies and a few places where I wanted to smooth out the wording, but overall, I think the book is in good shape!

Good week of revision

It was a good week of revision. I finished organizing all the comments and am about halfway through making the edits in the scenes that need them. I like revision. I like seeing how the text improves. Should be done in a couple of days, then one read-through and I send it to my publisher.

The editing client I expected to send me something this week asked for an extension, so it looks like I might have a couple of weeks off, unless I can convince one of my other editing clients to submit early. At this point, January is looking crazy-busy. But this December, between sending Gathering of Ghosts to the publisher and getting The Shadow Spy’s Wife back from beta readers will only be about 2-3 weeks, so not enough time to get my head into another book–though I could possibly write a short story. We’ll see.

Finished another client’s edits

Finished the client’s edits and dove into beta readers’ feedback on Book 3 of my series–finished the nit-picky stuff, and am busy organizing the substantive stuff. There isn’t that much, which is nice. I’m hoping to get the edits and read-through done in a week and send it off to my publisher, because I have more editing work promised to come in next week.

New Story Out This Week!

My short story, “The Only Road” came out last Tuesday in Ed Willett’s Shapers of Worlds v. II. I’m pretty excited to be in the Table Of Contents with Kelley Armstrong, Garth Nix, Candas Jane Dorsey, Jeffrey Carver, Adria Laycraft, David Levine, Carrie Vaughan, Nancy Kress, James Alan Gardner, Barbra Hambly and S. M. Stirling, among others!!! Pretty amazing line-up.

Got a bit of editing done for a client, and (along with my two co-editors) selected the last two stories to go into Life Beyond Us (coming out in September). So a bit of a hodgepodge, and no work on my own novels, but as soon as I get home I plan to revise Book 3 of my Addicted to Heaven series.
