Book Review: A Cure For Madness by Jodi McIsaac

Thriller 4+/5

When the death of her parents brings Clare back home to care for her brother, a mysterious outbreak sweeps through the town—an outbreak with symptoms frighteningly similar to those of her schizophrenic brother. I loved this thriller. Everything about it worked.

Book Review: The Collection of Jaqueline Melrose: Revenge by Michael Gillett

Fantasy 3/5

When her well-to-do father is murdered in 1920 London, Jaqueline Melrose won’t quit until she finds his killer…even if the hunt takes her to Otherwhere. This stylish book sings, particularly the sections following Jaqueline, her gutsy widowed mother and naïve twin sister—as well as the gangster, Booth. Sections exploring the philosophical slow the pace.

Revisions to The Shadow Spy’s Daughter

I’m adding a subplot (Uncle Carl’s story–he’s a spy!) in The Shadow Spy’s Daughter that I’m very happy with.

😁

No news yet on when to expect Gathering of Ghosts from Laksa Media. I HOPE to have copies at the World Fantasy Convention and Can*Con later this month…

Book Review: Making Money, by Terry Pratchett

Humor 5-/5

Moist, a former cat burglar-turned-head-of-the-post-office, is given the position of chief of the bank, and nefarious forces must now get rid of him. This one grew on me. I’d tried to read Terry Pratchett before and couldn’t get into his work, but this one I found marvellously funny—not guffaw-out-loud, but I had a constant smirk all the way through the audiobook.

First draft done!

Wrote “the end”! Of course, there are revisions, next. I have a “to do” list.

Also, started teaching a Science Fiction course for the Alexandra Writers’ Center. I have 6 students and it looks like it’s going to be a great group!
