Taking a week off

To edit a novel for Edge. This is very cool work. I have a great author to work with, who listens openmindedly (is that an adverb?! My spell-checker doesn’t like it) to my suggestions, though he has areas he wants to maintain. So far, I can see how he as done both — used my suggestions and kept the scenes he most wants — to great effect. I am really enjoying both his book, and the process!

Another short story in the mail!

That brings me up to six, currently. Love how the novel is coming. And–I think I mentioned that I am now fiction editor for Edge Press–I have my author, Ryan Oakley’s, rewrites as of today, and so will be putting most things aside for a bit to get him some feedback.

Okay, tomorrow I babysit my grandson, so I won’t put that aside. Boy, days sure are full!

Edge’s Tenth Anniversary party was great!

There were a lot of people there — great to see so many people I knew, and so many who’d made the trek to town from other places. It was held at the Aerospace Museum, a perfect venue for a steampunk party — tons of people were getting their photos taken in front of the old airplanes. The food was marvellous — especially the cake!! (thanks, Matt) which was not only delicious, it was so beautiful it was a crime to cut into it. I’m guessing about 80% of the people were in costume and most of the costumes were REALLY well done. I was amazed at where people had got such authentic-looking steampunk wear. And, I won the costume contest (female) — and got a lovely Edge book as a prize (The Apparition Trail, a steampunk novel by Lisa Smedman). Can hardly wait to start it!

Right Chemistry and Director’s Cut eligible for Nebula

I just posted both stories (The Right Chemistry appeared in OnSPEC in their Summer edition, and The Director’s Cut just came out this November in Tesseracts Fourteen, by Edge Press) on the SFWA site, so if any of you are SFWans, feel free to nominate either of my stories!

Thanks!
