The summer is opening up

Finished the final read-through of my novel, and did a bit more work on the Life Beyond Us anthology. I have to write a final report for the grant I received for the novel–it’s due June 1, then I’m down to 3 editing projects: a fantasy novel, the homicide detective’s memoir, and whatever is left with Life Beyond Us. I think I’ll spend a bit of time in June cleaning the house and working in the garden, but I may go back to edits for Book 4 of my series. Book 3 got pushed back to 2023 (and I don’t have the edits for that yet–probably won’t get them now until October) so I doubt if Book 4 will be out before 2024. So there’s no rush, but I might as well get on it. Or maybe write some short fiction. Or maybe start another novel I’ve been mulling over. We’ll see.

Continuity read-through of the novel

Finished up some editing odds and ends–another story for the anthology–then got to dive back into my novel for a final read-through before sending it to my editor. Got some bad news: there’s been an illness in her family, so she can’t take the ms. right away, but that’s fine. I’ll get it done and be onto the next thing this week (I’m halfway through and want to have a continuous read for continuity), then send it to her when she’s ready.

Finished an editing contract

Very pleased to have finished my most recent editing contract. This brings me down to only one editing client, and this week upcoming, I will be reviewing my own novel to submit for my second round of editing, mid-month.

Writers’–er, Editors’–Retreat…

Got away for a writers’ retreat, but didn’t get any writing done–still under deadline, editing for a client. Love the story, and should finish soon. Interrupted by other deadline-driven editing stuff: 3 more essays for the Life Beyond Us anthology, and a client whose work I finished has a follow-up conversation scheduled for Monday, so I have a bit of review to do to prepare.

Second Edit

I’m editing a fantasy novel for a client whose second language is English. I already did the structural edit and the changes he’s made from the original are magical. It’s a great story, well-constructed, and it has some beautiful turns of phrase, and I’m enjoying the work.
