Aurora Awards Announcement is Out!

Yay! I was nominated for an Aurora Award in the short fiction category! My story, “Turning it Off” in Analog last December was eligible, and now I am on the short list! Thanks to everyone who nominated me, and congratulations to all my worthy opponents–some awesome names on that list!

I also got a second, side-ways nomination: the novel I edited, Technicolor Ultramall, by Ryan Oakley, was the first novel I edited for Edge. Also very exciting!

  1. Sideways, eh? As an editor myself, I’d have to say that I always take a great deal of (second hand?) pride in the success of the books that I’ve edited. If only people could see the “before” picture to compare with the master piece that comes out after the editor has had a go!

Of course, books that I’ve edited that have subsequently flopped are entirely the fault of the author. One does what one can with the material one was given, but really, it was a hopeless task. 🙂

    Congratulations on your nomination(s).

  2. True–true! I have to say, working on this particular novel was really interesting. The premise, idea and its execution were all there from the beginning, and though the author put his stake in the sand on a couple of points, he was really open to suggestions I made, and I felt a great deal of pride and ownership in the project. I’m glad this book was nominated, not only because I had a hand in it, but because I think it has something important to say that is not a re-hash idea.
